My name is Kelli Nesselbush. I am from Buffalo, New York. I have been teaching since 2003. I always knew that I would grow-up and be a teacher. I gained early experience playing “school” in my basement with my younger sister. I always promised her that tomorrow she could be the teacher, but that never was the case. J
In New York, I graduated from Canisius College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a concentration in social studies. I went on to complete my master’s degree in literacy, also from Canisius College.
Right after graduating with my Bachelors Degree, I got my first teaching job – a fourth grade teacher. I taught fourth grade at St. John Vianney School from 2003-2006.
A better job opportunity brought me to the Charlotte area in 2006. I can’t complain it beats shoveling snow and cold temperatures! When I moved to the Huntersville area, I started at HES. I started out the teaching fourth grade in NY and within a few weeks, I was living in NC setting up my KINDERGARTEN classroom! BOY, was that drastic change. But, change is good. After some adjustment, I learned to love teaching kindergarten.
In 2007, I was asked to move to first grade. I loved teaching first grade. Not only did I work with the BEST colleagues, but they are some of my BEST friends! In 2013, I was asked to move from first grade to FIFTH grade!!! What a jump! My principal was confident that I would be successful! I was shocked...but surprise, surprise I ended up loving it! In the spring of 2014, I was voted Teacher of the Year by my colleagues! What an honor! The 2013-2014 school year turned out to be one of the best yet!
I now live in Cornelius. The love of my life is my maltipoo Sammy! He is so cute! Sammy loves to play fetch, run really fast, and snuggle. When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy being on the lake, swimming, laughing and having a good time with friends, playing the wii, working out, reading, going to movies and watching TV.
Regularly, I travel back home to Buffalo to visit my family – Mom, Dad, sister Jaime, and my niece Averi.

Education:
University of Maryland, Baltimore County: M. Ed: Instructional Systems Design, June, 2007
University of New Mexico: M. Ed Elementary Education, May 1995
Salisbury University: BS Elementary Education, May 1993
Educational Philosophy:
My classroom is designed to be a caring, safe, and equitable environment where each child can blossom and grow. I allow children to become responsible members of our classroom community by using strategies such as class meetings, positive discipline, and democratic principles. In showing children how to become responsible for themselves as well as their own learning, I am giving them the tools to become successful in life, to believe in themselves, and be productive citizens as they continue on their road to success.
